Ethical Operations
At Malaysia Aviation Group, our utmost priority is to enhance long-term value for our stakeholders through a steadfast commitment to corporate governance at every level of our organization. We believe that being proactive in ensuring good governance ensures we operate to the highest of ethical standards and in compliance with laws and regulations, building trust and credibility with our stakeholders.
Upholding Human Rights MAG’s key approach of creating awareness, capacity building and collaborating with strategic partners has helped us contribute to this universal goal. We adopt a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery in any form, and our position is clearly stated in our Human Capital Policy. MAG’s key points are continuous awareness, specialised training and collaborating with strategic partners. ZERO reported cases of human trafficking Average of 1,000 MAG staff has been trained for victim identification and reporting mechanism since 2018.
Multi-Level Approach to Safety and Security In 2022, all three of our airlines underwent Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia air Operator Certificate (AOC) Renewal and Surveillance Audits in 2022, maintaining our AOC certifications. The AOC certification is a key regulatory certification for airlines to operate. MAB conform to the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification. ADS HQ and Kuala Lumpur were IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO) recertified until end of 2023, and conflict zones of Ukraine, Middle East and South China Sea are closely monitored. Potential cyberthreats are constantly evaluated by our IT Cybersecurity team. ZERO accidents for 5.5 years ZERO accidents and workplace related deaths in 2022 ZERO incidents of cybersecurity breaches
Regulatory Compliance
We have implemented a range of awareness and training programmes for our employees, covering topics such as CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) regulations, identifying suspicious items or cargo, and reporting mechanisms for suspected illegal contraband.
Anti-Human & Anti-Wildlife Trafficking Roadshow MAG takes an active stance against human and wildlife trafficking and officially signed the Buckingham Declaration in June 2017 which unites the world’s leading organisations and wildlife charities under a common purpose – one that has created a global movement for change against wildlife trafficking. The MAG Anti-Human and Anti-Wildlife Trafficking Roadshow was launched on 15 November 2017. MAG continues to work closely with bodies such as the Council for Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (MAPO) to train and empower our staff, especially our cabin crew, to be our eyes in the skies and on ground to report any suspicious.
Scooby Doo Project The international illegal wildlife trade (excluding timber and fisheries) is estimated to be worth up to USD 23 billion a year, making it the fourth largest illegal global trade (after drugs, counterfeiting and human trafficking) and covers a broad range of endangered species. Recognizing the urgency, our Business Integrity Department (BID) leads Group-wide anti-wildlife trafficking programs, prioritizing cargo units and frontline employees. BID collaborates with local authorities to prevent illegal wildlife trafficking on our services. The Scooby Doo project, driven by BID, involves a collaboration between MAG and RIMBA, an NGO training 2 K9 units to detect wildlife smuggling at MASkargo complex.
Internal Control
The primary purpose of internal controls is to help safeguard MAG and further its objectives through minimising risks, protecting assets, ensuring record accuracy, promoting operational efficiency, and encouraging adherence to policies, rules, regulations, and laws.
Whistleblowing Campaign The Business Integrity Division (BID) manages a rigorous internal control framework to prevent violations of internal rules and to promote a culture of business integrity at every level of the company. Thus, the whistleblower system has been implemented to allow anyone, internally and externally, to raise concerns and alerts directly to BID if the whistleblower believes in good faith that the code of business conduct, policies and standards or a law or regulation has been or is about to be violated. This secure helpline is available 24/7 with a dedicated web page and a toll-free number in addition to writing in directly to BID.
